End Zone angle of the final play of Trinity vs. Millsaps Football. Down 24-16 with just over two minutes to go, Trinity's Riley Curry scored to cut the lead to 24-22. After a missed two point conversion attempt, Trinity's defense held Millsaps to a three-and-out without using any timeouts. The Tigers were left with two seconds and 60 yards to go for a score. 15 laterals and 62 seconds later, Trinity crossed the goal line to win the game and take the upper hand in the conference standings. Seven of the 11 players for Trinity touched the ball including, Blake Barmore, Shawn Thompson, Riley Curry, Josh Hooten, Michael Tomlin, Stephen Arnold, and Brandon Maddux.

The Three Meter Geodynamo experiment is the latest in a series of progressively larger experiments in the Lathrop Lab at the University of Maryland to study how planets generate magnetic fields. We are essentially trying to build planetary cores in the lab.
We hope the Three Meter experiment will generate a magnetic field from a rotating turbulent flow of liquid sodium metal.
The experiment is now in an assembly and testing phase.
When complete it will contain nearly 13 tons (13,000kg) of sodium metal flowing in the space between a 3 meter diameter outer sphere (shown here in a rotation test) and a 1 meter diameter inner sphere concentric with the outer. Each sphere has a 350 horsepower (250kW) electric motor to drive its rotation. The inner sphere models the Earth's solid inner core; the sodium models the Earth's fluid outer core, the source of the Earth's main magnetic field.
For more information on this experiment and other experiments at Dan Lathrop's lab at the University of Maryland, please visit http://complex.umd.edu

"I read once, passingly, about a man named Shakespeare. I only read about him passingly, but I remember one thing he wrote that kind of moved me. He put it in the mouth of Hamlet, I think, it was, who said, "To be or not to be." He was in doubt about something. Whether it was nobler in the mind of man to suffer the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune, moderation, or to take up arms against a sea of troubles and by opposing end them. And I go for that. If you take up arms, you'll end it, but if you sit around and wait for the one who's in power to make up his mind that he should end it, you'll be waiting a long time. And in my opinion, the young generation of whites, blacks, browns, whatever else there is, you're living at a time of extremism, a time of revolution, a time when there's got to be a change. People in power have misused it and now there has to be a change and a better world has to be built and the only way it's going to be built is with extreme methods. And I, for one, will join in with anyone, I don't care what color you are, as long as you want to change this miserable condition that exists on this earth."

This is the front end to our smart house project (or smart office as is the case here). It uses Microsoft speech recognition and Guile 3D agent software (featuring Nicole). The speech synthesis is AT & T voices.
The program is written in a .Net language and an earlier version can be downloaded for free (minus the Agent Nicole of course).
http://www.massey.ac.nz/~tjmoir/speech.html
Of course speech recognition in a relatively noise-free environment is no longer such a challenge and the real work is applying adaptive signal processing to this to improve the hit rate in a noisy environment. This is the main thrust of our research. The recognition part is our interface with the house or office. The present system of course has great potential for disabled people. The devices on this video are powered by the parallel port or via USB to a local Triac switching box we made. I have since added X10 devices which are more convenient and "off the shelf". The X10 devices can be placed anywhere in a house without extra wiring. I will post another video soon.
On Windows XP only SAPI4 speech sythesis is supported by Micropsoft for Agents. However, SAPI 5 voices can also be used concurrently which is like a voice-over.
